Climate Change, Impacts & Adaptation

This 4-day course provides an in-depth grounding in the science, impacts, and adaptation strategies related to climate change. Participants will examine how climate risks intersect with humanitarian, development, and business operations, and gain practical tools to integrate climate considerations into programme design, monitoring, and evaluation.

Course Overview

  • Understand the science behind climate change and its regional impacts.
  • Assess climate vulnerability and exposure at community and organisational levels.
  • Design climate-resilient programmes aligned with SDGs and Paris Agreement goals.
  • Apply adaptation and mitigation frameworks in humanitarian and development contexts.
  • Communicate climate risk effectively to donors, boards, and communities.

Learning Outcomes

  • Conduct a climate vulnerability assessment for a target community.
  • Integrate climate risk into project logframes and M&E plans.
  • Develop an organisational climate adaptation roadmap.
  • Communicate climate evidence to non-technical audiences.

Requirements

  • Basic familiarity with development or humanitarian programming.
  • No prior climate science background required.
  • Willingness to engage in group fieldwork exercises.
  • Commitment to complete all 4 days of the programme.
